Wenjing Xu and Cheng Zhan receive the 2017 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad. Wenjing is a fifth-year graduate student in Yadong Yin's group; her research focuses on functionalization of nanostructures by surface engineering. Cheng Zhan is a fourth-year graduate student in De-en Jiang's group; his research focuses on understanding capacitive energy storage from a theoretical perspective. Each year the Chinese Government honors top 500 Chinese graduate students all over the world across all disciplines for their research excellence through this award. Each awardee will receive $6000 and a certificate at a ceremony in a Chinese embassy or consulate general. Three graduate students from UCR receive this award this year.
