Prof. De-en Jiang's paper "Stabilization and Band-Gap Tuning of 1T-MoS2 Monolayer by Covalent Functionalization" in Chemistry of Materials was chosen as an ACS Editor's Choice (1 paper per day out of over 42,000 annually). The paper was available online on 1 May 2015 and is in the top 10 most downloaded papers from Chemistry of Materials. The MoS2 monolayer is the second most studied two-dimensional material after graphene. Prof. De-en Jiang and his postdoc Dr. Qing Tang showed that 1T-MoS2 becomes the stable after covalent functionalization and that its band gap can be tuned from zero to 1eV by coverage. Their work demonstrates the potential of controlling monolayer MoS2's phase stability and electronic properties by covalent functionalization.
