Professor Ming Lee Tang has received a Young Investigator Award from the Army Research Office for her proposal entitled - Creating magnetic plasmons at visible frequencies: towards isotropic negative index metamaterials. Dr. Tangs research utilizes bottom-up self-assembly of 3D assemblies of plasmonic nanoparticles for the manipulation of visible light. Chemical reactions are used to link plasmonic nanoparticles at length scales not accessible to lithographic techniques. Applications include: Metamaterials with sub-wavelength building blocks, coherent control of single photons, and antenna-enhanced fluorescence and Raman.
