 COLR technology developed by UCR Chemistry professor Yadong Yin will be developed jointly by BASF and Idea Zoo, a technology licensing firm. This technology is based on colloidal iron-oxide-based nanocrystals that form a lattice of clusters. A magnetic field can be used to alter the spacing between the lattice changing the wavelengths of light refracted by the nanocrystals and allowing touch-free tuning of color from the UV through the entire visible spectrum and into the infrared.
